Dominating the riverside, the castle is at the heart of Inverness. Until early 2020, it was mainly used as the sheriff's court, but now that the new justice centre has been built, the castle will be transformed over the coming years into a major visitor attraction.
The viewpoint from the castle tower re-opened to the public on 4th September 2020. You can climb the 95 steps to the top of the tower and take in the panoramic views of the river and city.
There is also a video you can watch about the history, myths and legends of the Highland capital and nearby Loch Ness.
Open from Thursday to Monday from 10.30am to 4pm (last booking at 3.30pm). Closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Opening hours valid until 31 October 2020. It costs £6 for adults and £4 for children under 12.
Online booking is now essential. Each family bubble/extended household of up to 9 people has a bookable slot of 25 minutes.
