Dominating the riverside, the castle is at the heart of Inverness. Until early 2020, it was mainly used as the sheriff's court, but now that the new justice centre has been built, the castle will be transformed over the coming years into a major visitor attraction.
The viewpoint from the castle tower is where you can climb the 95 steps to the top of the tower and take in the panoramic views of the river and city.
There is also a video you can watch about the history, myths and legends of the Highland capital and nearby Loch Ness.
It is closed for the winter (November 2020 onwards). Admission costs £6 for adults and £4 for children under 12.
Online booking is essential.
